An Alexander Technique workshop with Clare Maxwell: Investigating Dart Procedures

Fumbally Court Studio are delighted to welcome Clare Maxwell all the way from Movement Research NYC to the Studio in August to facilitate her Alexander Technique workshop: Investigating Dart Procedures. This workshop is aimed towards movement practitioners, teachers and those who are interested in taking a somatic approach to life. We at F.C.S. think Clare’s work is amazing, intuitive and unique and encourage you all to avail of this rare opportunity to learn from her here in Ireland.  She will be doing short one-on-one sessions with all the participants throughout the workshop so bring your questions, injuries, thoughts and practices to the Studio. Clare Maxwell teaches Alexander Technique privately in NYC and is on the Physical Inquiry and Somatic Practices faculty at Movement Research. She taught for 5 years on the faculty of the William Esper acting studio as well. Clare’s mission is to help working artists train and do what they love without burning out and hurting themselves. Her way of teaching the Alexander principles is dynamic and unique. She is engaged in an ongoing investigation of the Dart Procedures, an Alexander based form of developmental movement. Clare danced with choreographers Ann Carlson, Amy Sue Rosen, John Jasperse, and many others, as well as making her own dances since the late 1980’s. She is now primarily a teaching artist, leading workshops for Alexander teachers, performers, body-workers and therapists who want to be fully embodied in their work.

  • Learn several improvisations based on the structure of the Central Nervous System (12 cranial and 36 spinal nerves), designed to support the Alexander concept of “the head leads and the body follows,” and to easily warm performers up and open the body to receive new information and experience.
  • Learn the simple, practical Alexander Technique principles of awareness, inhibition, and direction, which help us discover and escape from the prison of habit and find out if we are REALLY doing what we want to be doing.
  • Apply the AT principles to learning the Dart Procedures, a developmental movement form which spans the entire journey an infant will undergo in order to stand, walk on two feet, and balance on one foot. We will sketch the whole Dart form, and focus on one small part of it depending on interest. Each person will get hands on guidance through a segment of the sequence.
  • Apply what we have learned about organizing movement via the first two processes to specific movement challenges brought in by participants.

The workshop takes place in Fumbally Court Studio on the 17th and 18th August. It is a 2 day, full time event running from 10.30-17.30 on both days.

The cost for the workshop is €125 per person and all bookings can be made by mailing us at:
